Case study
A long-term platform partnership giving NTT Data's global practice teams a reliable, consistent pipeline for document translation and training video localisation — supporting client engagements, internal operations, and workforce development across their worldwide IT services footprint.
Client: NTT Data Japan · Industry: IT Services, Enterprise · Region: Japan, APAC, Global · Engagement: 9 months and ongoing. Over 100,000 words translated per month and over 100 minutes of video dubbed per month on Rian's enterprise tier.
NTT Data operates one of the world's largest IT services practices — spanning cloud transformation, managed services, BPO, and enterprise application delivery across the Americas, EMEA, and APAC. With Japan as its operational centre of gravity and a global client base, NTT Data routinely navigates a two-way translation requirement: Japanese-origin documentation flowing outward to global stakeholders, and English-language client deliverables flowing back to Japanese practice teams.
Beyond the Japan-global axis, individual practice groups manage their own localisation needs: APAC teams delivering in regional languages, European practice teams handling German, French, and Spanish documentation, and an L&D function producing training content that must be in-language for distributed, in-country workforces. Across all of these, the challenge was consistency — of terminology, of turnaround expectations, and of the experience for each team submitting a job. As NTT Data Japan's Head of Global Operations described it, they needed something that could handle the Japan-to-global flow reliably while also scaling to support practice groups working in completely different language pairs.
Over nine months, NTT Data Japan has established a steady-state localisation pipeline on Rian across two content streams. For documentation — client proposals, statements of work, compliance submissions, and operational runbooks — teams translate over 100,000 words per month directly through the platform, receiving formatted, terminology-consistent output at enterprise SLA. For L&D content, NTT Data's corporate learning team routes training video through Rian's managed dubbing pipeline, localising over 100 minutes of video per month for in-country workforces across their global practice groups. Both streams run on Rian's enterprise tier, giving NTT Data Japan dedicated capacity, priority turnaround, and a single supplier relationship in place of the fragmented vendor arrangements that previously served each region independently.
The Rian platform provides NTT Data's teams with enterprise document translation for contracts, SOWs, compliance reports, runbooks, and client-facing documentation — formatted and terminology-consistent. It delivers training video localisation, subtitling and dubbing corporate onboarding, compliance training, and product enablement videos for in-country teams. Enterprise-grade data handling makes it suitable for an IT services environment processing sensitive client and operational data. IT and BPO terminology control applies domain-specific glossaries covering ITIL, cloud services, and managed services terminology across all language pairs. Format-faithful output returns translated documents in their original PDF, DOCX, or PPTX format without layout disruption. Multi-team platform access lets practice groups across regions use the platform independently, each managing their own jobs without coordination overhead.
Client proposals and statements of work — English originals localised for Japanese procurement and legal review, and Japanese originals translated for global client delivery. Compliance and regulatory documentation — submissions, audit reports, and policy documents translated for in-country regulatory requirements across APAC and Europe. Operational runbooks and process documentation — IT service management documentation localised for in-country delivery teams operating managed services engagements. Corporate onboarding and compliance training videos — mandatory in-language training content for NTT Data's distributed global workforce, subtitled and dubbed through the managed pipeline. Product and service enablement content — sales enablement materials, product overviews, and technical solution guides adapted for regional language markets.
NTT Data is evaluating platform API access to connect Rian directly to their document management and contract lifecycle systems — routing new documents flagged for localisation automatically, without manual submission. The L&D partnership is also expanding to cover microlearning content and short-form video produced for NTT Data's internal skills development programmes, where fast turnaround and in-language delivery are critical to adoption. As NTT Data Japan's Global Learning & Development Lead summarised, running 100,000 words of document translation and 100 minutes of dubbed video through one platform every month has given the organisation a consistency it never had managing multiple vendors.
