Case study
A 2.5-year product-led partnership in which NTT Data India's teams independently manage high-volume document translation entirely through Rian's self-serve platform — no managed pipeline, no dedicated project team, just the product doing the work at scale.
Client: NTT Data (India) · Industry: IT Services, BPO · Region: India, APAC · Engagement: 2.5+ years and ongoing. Roughly 2 million translation credits consumed per month across 10+ languages on Rian's self-serve platform tier.
NTT Data's India operations sit at the intersection of a complex translation requirement. On one side, client-facing deliverables — proposals, statements of work, project reports, and compliance submissions — must move fluidly between English and the languages of NTT Data's Indian enterprise clients. On the other, internal documentation flowing across NTT Data's global practice network requires consistent, terminology-accurate translation for the teams consuming it.
With multiple practice groups operating independently — each with their own project cadence, document types, and language needs — the organisation needed a localisation solution that could scale horizontally across teams without becoming a bottleneck. Traditional agency workflows, with their quote-approve-assign cycles, couldn't keep pace with the volume or the variety of content being produced. As an Operations Lead at NTT Data India explained, teams needed something they could just use, without raising a request, waiting for a quote, or managing a vendor relationship every time a document needed to go out in a different language.
NTT Data India adopted Rian's self-serve platform over two and a half years ago and has since grown into one of Rian's highest-volume platform clients. Today, their teams collectively consume approximately 2 million translation credits per month — entirely through the product, without a managed pipeline or dedicated project coordination. The model works because different practice groups can use the platform independently. A team working on a client proposal uploads it directly, specifies the target language, and receives output without ever touching a shared queue or waiting on another team's backlog. Each group has its own workflow; the platform provides the consistent infrastructure underneath all of them.
Rian's self-serve platform provides high-volume document translation of SOWs, client proposals, compliance documents, and operational reports processed at scale through the self-serve interface. Multi-team self-serve access lets practice groups across India work independently, each managing their own translation queues without coordination overhead. Enterprise-grade data handling makes it suitable for an IT services environment handling sensitive client and regulatory content. IT and BPO terminology control applies custom glossaries covering ITIL, managed services, cloud, and BPO terminology for consistent output across every team and language pair. Format-faithful output returns translated documents in their original PDF, DOCX, PPTX, or XLSX format with layout and structure intact. Fast, predictable turnaround means teams are not queued behind a project manager — jobs go in and come out on demand.
Client proposals and statements of work — English originals localised for Indian enterprise clients, and regional-language originals translated for global delivery and review. Compliance and regulatory documentation — submissions, audit reports, and policy documents translated for in-country regulatory requirements across the APAC region. Operational runbooks and process documentation — IT service management documentation localised for delivery teams operating managed services engagements in regional markets. Internal communications and HR documentation — policies, benefits documents, and internal announcements translated for NTT Data India's multilingual employee base. Product and solution enablement content — sales enablement materials, technical solution guides, and product overviews adapted for regional language markets.
NTT Data India is evaluating API integration to connect Rian directly to their document management systems — enabling automatic routing of documents flagged for localisation without manual upload steps. At current volumes, removing that friction from the workflow would compress turnaround times further and let teams close the loop on client deliverables faster. As a Technology Practice Lead at NTT Data India put it, two million credits a month sounds like a big number, but it doesn't feel like overhead — the platform just handles it, which is what good infrastructure should do.
