Case study
A 4-year self-serve platform partnership in which KPIT's engineering and L&D teams have consumed over 800 million translation credits — localising technical documents and training content across their global automotive software practice without managing multiple vendors per region.
Client: KPIT Technologies · Industry: Automotive Software · Region: India · US · Europe · Japan · Engagement: 4+ years, ongoing. Across the partnership KPIT's teams have consumed 800M+ translation credits on a self-serve (PLG) platform tier, spanning 10+ languages across markets.
KPIT Technologies works at the intersection of automotive software and embedded systems engineering — supporting OEMs and Tier 1 suppliers across the US, Europe, Japan, South Korea, and India. The nature of this work generates a continuous volume of localisation needs: requirements documents and technical specifications written in English that need to reach engineering teams in Osaka, Munich, or Seoul; compliance training videos that must be in-language to meet regional standards; and product runbooks delivered to clients in their operating language.
Before consolidating onto a single platform, KPIT managed translation through a mix of regional vendors, each operating in their own workflow with their own terminology conventions. Coordinating across those vendors added overhead to every project, and inconsistencies in automotive terminology — across languages and across vendors — created downstream quality issues that had to be caught in review.
“Every region had its own vendor, its own turnaround expectations, and its own interpretation of our terminology. Consolidating onto one platform changed how we think about localisation operationally.” — Global Delivery Lead, KPIT Technologies
Over four years, KPIT's teams have processed more than 800 million translation credits through Rian's self-serve platform — making them one of Rian's longest-standing and highest-volume platform clients. The relationship runs across two content streams. For document translation — engineering specs, SOWs, compliance reports, and client-facing documentation — teams across regions submit directly through the self-serve interface and receive formatted, terminology-consistent output. For L&D and training content, KPIT's learning team routes video localisation through Rian's managed pipeline, covering subtitling and dubbing for onboarding modules and mandatory compliance training.
Both streams run on the same platform, giving KPIT a single point of visibility across all active localisation work — regardless of content type, language pair, or team.
What the Rian platform provides to KPIT's teams:
KPIT replaced a separate vendor relationship per region with a single platform any team can upload to and go. One-to-two-week document batches became days for standard documents; terminology is now locked to KPIT's approved glossary across all languages and projects; a live dashboard shows every job and language pair in one view; and document translation and video subtitling run on one platform under one billing relationship.
KPIT is evaluating deeper platform integration — connecting Rian to their document management system so that engineering deliverables flagged for localisation can be routed to the platform automatically, without manual file export. The partnership is also expanding into real-time collaborative review workflows, giving KPIT's in-country engineering teams direct access to translation review within the platform.
“The terminology consistency alone was worth the move. Our engineers in Japan and Germany are now working from documents that use the same vocabulary as the English originals — that's not a small thing.” — Engineering Programme Manager, KPIT Technologies
