Case study

How Cipla built a scalable L&D video localisation engine with Rian

A year-long enterprise partnership combining Rian's self-serve SaaS platform with a managed video pipeline — giving Cipla's L&D team the speed and consistency to localise training content at scale, without the overhead of traditional agency workflows.

Client: Cipla Ltd. · Industry: Pharma · L&D · Region: India · Global markets · Engagement: 1+ year, ongoing. The partnership spans a SaaS platform plus a managed pipeline, covering video content across 8+ Indian languages.

The challenge

Cipla operates across dozens of manufacturing plants, regional offices, and sales territories throughout India. With a workforce of over 25,000 employees spanning diverse linguistic backgrounds, the L&D team produces a continuous stream of training content — onboarding modules, compliance and safety briefings, product knowledge videos, and soft-skills programmes.

Before Rian, this content was produced in English and localised through a mix of external agencies and freelance translators. The process was slow, unpredictable, and difficult to manage at scale. Batches took two to three weeks. Terminology varied between agencies. And the L&D team had no visibility into project status until delivery arrived.

“We were producing great content, but it was reaching only a fraction of our workforce in a language they were comfortable with.” — L&D Lead, Cipla

The partnership

Cipla engaged Rian for a two-track solution. For high-volume production batches — new module launches, annual compliance refreshers, and large-scale onboarding runs — Rian's managed enterprise pipeline handles end-to-end localisation with a dedicated project team. For day-to-day needs, Cipla's internal L&D team uses RianOS, Rian's self-serve SaaS platform, to manage smaller jobs independently.

The combination means Cipla has both the throughput for large campaigns and the agility for ad-hoc requests — without spinning up a new vendor relationship every time.

Platform capabilities

What RianOS and the managed pipeline provide to Cipla's team:

What we localised

Before Rian vs. with Rian

Where Cipla once briefed external agencies and waited on quotes for every batch, teams now upload directly into RianOS and see a project live in minutes. Two-to-three-week turnarounds became days for standard batches and hours for small self-serve jobs. Variable, agency-by-agency interpretations gave way to terminology locked to Cipla's master pharma glossary, a live project dashboard replaced status-only-at-delivery, and per-word agency rates plus rush premiums were replaced by a flat SaaS subscription and a managed rate for high-volume batches.

Looking ahead

The partnership is expanding into SCORM-compatible eLearning module localisation — taking Cipla's interactive assessments and branching scenarios into regional languages without disrupting the underlying course structure. Cipla is also evaluating RianOS API access to integrate localisation directly into their LMS publishing workflow, removing the file export step entirely.

“The self-serve platform changed our team's relationship with localisation — it went from being a bottleneck we planned around to something we could just do.” — Digital Learning Manager, Cipla
