Case study

How Bajaj Life Insurance streamlined localisation across five content verticals

A leading private life insurer serving 35 million+ customers across India partnered with Rian to unify their fragmented localisation workflow — cutting costs by 20% and improving turnaround time by 35% within the first six months.

Client: Bajaj Life Insurance · Industry: BFSI, Life Insurance · Region: India-wide, 22 languages · Engagement: ongoing enterprise.

The challenge

Bajaj Life Insurance operates across every major Indian state, distributing products through a network of over 100,000 advisors and multiple digital channels. With a portfolio spanning term, ULIP, and savings plans — and strict IRDAI guidelines mandating vernacular availability for key customer-facing documents — the localisation burden was significant.

Prior to engaging Rian, the team relied on a patchwork of freelance translators, regional agencies, and internal staff reviewers. The result was inconsistent terminology across regions, turnaround times that regularly exceeded two weeks for a standard batch, and per-word costs that varied by as much as 40% between vendors. Scaling into new markets or launching new products required spinning up an entirely new vendor relationship. As one Senior Manager for Content & Compliance put it, the team was spending more time managing translators than managing quality, and every quarter-end product launch became a localisation bottleneck.

Why Rian

Bajaj Life evaluated three platforms before selecting Rian. The deciding factors were twofold: Rian's patented glossary and translation memory system, which could be seeded with Bajaj Life's existing approved terminology and IRDAI-mandated product names; and the hybrid AI plus human workflow, which provided the audit trail required for regulatory submissions while still delivering the speed of machine translation for lower-risk content. Rian's ability to handle five distinct content types — each with different quality and compliance requirements — on a single platform was a key differentiator from point-solution vendors.

What we localised

Rian manages end-to-end localisation across five content verticals for Bajaj Life: video localisation (agent training films, product explainers, and brand campaigns dubbed and subtitled for regional audiences); regulatory documents (IRDAI filings, policy wordings, and statutory forms localised with zero compliance deviation); compliance documents (KYC forms, claim procedures, and audit-ready reports with full formatting retention); marketing collaterals (brochures, emailers, social creatives, and outdoor campaign copy adapted for 8 regional markets); and product documentation (policy schedules, benefit illustrations, and surrender forms across the entire product portfolio).

How it works

All content is routed through Rian's RianOS platform, which applies a two-tier quality pipeline based on content category. Tier 1, regulatory and compliance content, uses a human translator plus editor plus compliance reviewer, with terminology locked to the Bajaj Life master glossary and a full audit log delivered with every batch. Tier 2, marketing and product docs, uses AI translation with human post-editing, glossary enforced automatically and brand voice guidelines integrated as style prompts. Video content uses AI voice-over with lip-sync for Hindi, Marathi, Tamil, Telugu, and Kannada, with human linguist review for script accuracy before final render. A dedicated project manager handles all intake, scheduling, and delivery — giving the Bajaj Life team a single point of contact regardless of content type or language pair.

The results

Within six months of go-live, Bajaj Life achieved measurable improvements across cost, speed, and consistency.

20% reduction in localisation spend

Consolidating five vendor relationships into one platform eliminated duplicate onboarding costs, format-conversion rework, and the premium pricing of last-minute rush orders. Translation memory reuse, built up over the first quarter, now automatically handles 30–40% of recurring regulatory language at zero marginal cost.

35% faster turnaround time

A standard marketing batch of 50–200 pages dropped from 12 days average to under 8 days. Regulatory filings went from 18 days to 11 days with the same compliance sign-off. Video localisation moved from 5 business days per episode to under 3, including QC.

Consistent terminology across every channel

The unified glossary eliminated the customer-facing inconsistencies that had previously required post-publication corrections — particularly for product names and benefit definitions, where a single mistranslation could create a regulatory exposure. As a VP of Distribution & Operations noted, the turnaround improvement alone paid for the platform, but the bigger win was letting the compliance team stop worrying about translation quality.

Looking ahead

Bajaj Life is expanding the engagement to cover audiobook-format policy summaries for visually impaired customers — a first for the life insurance sector in India — as well as real-time chatbot localisation for their agent-facing WhatsApp support tool. Bajaj Life joins 300+ enterprises that trust Rian.
